Examinations

Looking for more information about music exams?

MAPAS organise Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) exams. We run practical exam sessions three times a year and, in agreement with the MAPAS tutor and parent/carer, pupils are entered for these exams when they are ready.

MAPAS can also help you to arrange a music theory examination. In order to take higher practical grades, you need to pass Grade 5 Music Theory. Please note that Music Theory assessment at Grades 1 to 5 must be taken online. Candidates can take the exam in any location where they have a laptop or desktop computer with a webcam and internet access.

If you are interested in using a different exam board, talk to us about the options available. You can get in touch with us through our Contact form.

Upcoming Dates

We won't be hosting ABRSM examinations in Spring 2024, our next round of applications will be for Saturday 20 July.

All candidates must have an accompanist with the exception of piano pupils. A MAPAS accompanist is available for a small fee or you can provide your own accompanist if you prefer.

MAPAS also provide aural training classes leading up to the examination. These classes are optional but are highly recommended.

We can accept entries for Private pupils, however fees are slightly different.

ABRSM Remission Policy

MAPAS appreciate that entering for an ABRSM Exam can put a financial strain on families and as costs rise in other areas of society, we are committed to doing what we can to keep these opportunities accessible to all.

We are pleased to share our updated remission policy for ABRSM exams which we hope will offer some financial relief to those families who need it whilst keeping musical achievements attainable.
