Music Centre

The Music Centre is the strand of the MAPAS Centre for anyone who plays an instrument.

Whatever instrument you play and whatever standard you are, the MAPAS Centre has something for you.

Below you can find a list of all the different groups offered at the Music Centre, a bit of information about each, when they rehearse and any entry requirements.

Groups at Music Centre

Concert Band

The Concert Band is one of our premier ensembles and caters for all brass, woodwind and percussion instrumentalists of Grade 4 standard and above. This group explore a diverse range of music from across the Concert Band spectrum and perform in MAPAS’ most prestigious performances each year.

Concert Strings

The Concert Strings is one of our premier ensembles and caters for all string musicians of Grade 4 standard and above. Members will explore lots of exciting modern music for strings as well as amazing arrangements of pop/rock songs which have been wowing audiences at MAPAS showcase concerts and foreign tours for many years.

Guitar Club

This group is for anyone with a love of any instrument in the guitar family including Acoustic Guitar, Electric Guitar, Bass Guitar, Ukulele, Banjo or Mandolin. Under the guidance of our expert tutor you’ll learn specially written arrangements of rock and pop classics in a relaxed and fun environment. Turn it up to eleven in the MAPAS Guitar Club!

Maestros Percussion

This group is for anyone with a passion for rhythm and an interest in the exploration of exciting sounds. MAPAS Maestros Percussion members are given the chance to play an array of percussion instruments from around the world including: Congas, Xylophones, Snare Drums and Djembes to name just a few. This group is perfect for any children receiving/or who have received percussion lessons from MAPAS as part of a full class in school and a great outlet for any budding drum kit players.

MAPAS Maestros

The MAPAS Maestros is our beginner Orchestra and is a perfect fit for any beginner musician wanting to experience the fun and joy of playing and performing with others. If you are receiving/or have received lessons as part of a full class in school or individually on any brass, woodwind or string instrument then this is the group for you. If your instrument does not belong to you, we are able to hire one to you FREE of charge as part of our instrument loan scheme.

Piano Club

Pianists and keyboard players are often overlooked when it comes to gaining opportunities to play with others but not at MAPAS! Our Piano Club is here for pianists and keyboard players of all abilities to have the opportunity to make music together. Our expert tutor creates special arrangements of exciting music utilising the wealth of sounds available in the keyboard to create a wall of sound.

Salford Steel

Our in house Steel Band always bring the sunshine. Salford Steel is a Community group open to members of all ages and abilities. Come and experience the magic of steel pans in a fun and relaxed environment. Salford Steel are one of our most active groups and can often be found wowing audiences across the city and beyond!

Senior Brass Quintet

This small group of brass musicians meet once a month to work on exciting and challenging Brass music. Led by our professional Brass tutor you will learn skills and develop your musicianship greatly as part of this group. (Grade 4+)

Training Band

The Training Band bridges the gap between the MAPAS Maestros and our Concert Band well. In this group members will learn all about what it really takes to make music as part of a group as well as having the opportunity to develop their skills further and can often be found working on and ultimately performing brilliant arrangements of music from film, TV and musical theatre. If you play a brass or woodwind instrument or are a drum kit player or Percussionist then Training Band is for you.

Training Strings

The Training Strings bridge the gap between the MAPAS Maestros and our Concert Strings well. In this group members will learn all about what it really takes to make music as part of a group as well as having the opportunity to develop their skills further and can often be found working on and ultimately performing brilliant arrangements of folk and film music as well as great original music written especially for strings.

Youth Orchestra

The Orchestra is one of our premier groups and  caters all instrumentalists of Grade 3 standard and above. The group delve into arrangements of some of the most famous classical repertoire by some of the best composers ever and can be found headlining MAPAS Centre showcase concerts and performances each year.

Infant Orchestra

Our Infant Orchestra is the first step on a young musicians journey. As part of each session members will: develop their sense of rhythm and pulse through use of our exciting Bamboo Tamboo instruments, sing specially written songs perfectly tailored for young voices and perform as part of a group on a number of different musical instruments including; violin, trumpet and recorder. Led by specially trained members of our experienced tutor team, the Infant Orchestra is the perfect welcome into the MAPAS family for all young musicians.
